City Club Hotel – Midtown Hotels

Created by first time hotelier and New York royal Jeff Klein, the City Club Hotel is tiny – which is exactly how Klein wanted it. Klein envisioned the space as a small luxury boutique hotel, not a place where the masses could come to gawk at those exact people who don’t want to be gawked at (celebrities, of course). The hotel made waves when it opened directly in front of the Royalton, but as Klein’s famous friends have done their share of campaigning for the hotel, its never encountered any problems. Interior designer Jeffrey Bilhuber decorated the spacious 65 rooms in a club style, featuring a combination of cork floors, taupe furnishings and chocolate marble-and-chrome bathrooms.

Features and Amenities

Once a private political club, the City Club Hotel has been reborn as a small luxury hotel that places great weight on personal service, a central location and a chic yet comfortable at home feeling. With just 65 guest rooms decorated in shades of brown, beige and pale blue, the City Club Hotel was designed by interior genius Jeffrey Billhuber in his “New American Classical” style – a dynamic mix of traditional materials and modern sensibilities with emphasis placed on comfort and luxury. You’ll find hand-drawn plaster walls, Honduran mahogany furniture, Frette bed linens, feather beds, waxed cork flooring, polished bronze; plus waxed limestone in the bathrooms. All bathrooms are drenched in chocolate marble and feature chrome fixtures and C.O. Bigelow bath products. Each features a unique blend of abstract art, framed New York maps and playbills from years past, vintage books and vinyl records – the sort of homey touches you’d be hardpressed to find elsewhere. The hotel also offer three Grand Duplex suites with private terraces.

Rooms boast complimentary high speed wifi, 2-line telephones, premium channels and flat screen TVs, DVD players and CD/DVD libraries, complimentary newspapers and in-room electronic safes. Rooms offer books for guest reading, iHome stereo systems and mini-bars stocked with Dean  & Deluca snacks, alcoholic beverages and soft drinks.

The hotel doesn’t have a fitness center of its own, but offers complimentary membership to the New York Sports Club for hotel guests. There’s also discount parking available across the street.  The hotel’s in-house restaurant, DB Bistro Moderne, is run by world-renowned chef Daniel Boulud. The hotel offers 24-hour room service from the restaurant. Award-winning chef Boulud has created a chic eatery that serves much sought after French American fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner on the lobby floor of the hotel. Comprised of two dining rooms linked by a paneled wine bar, the front area of DB Bistro Moderne is vibrant and casual, while the back area of the restaurant is intimate and subdued.

Location

The City Club Hotel is situated on the north side of 44th Street in the center of Midtown Manhattan, between the shopping mecca that is upper Fifth Avenue and Times Square, where the “bright lights, big city” motto was coined. The hotel is just a hop, skip and a jump away from many a New York landmark – the New York Public Library, Broadway, Grand Central, the Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center. You’re not far from the beautiful Bryant Park, Midtown’s favorite green oasis. Formerly the hub of New York Fashion Week, Bryant Park offers outdoor seating year round, an ice skating rink in the winter and outdoor movies in the summer. No matter where you’re looking to go in New York, the City Club Hotel is a great  jumping off point from where to do it – uptown or downtown, east or west!
