Nolitan Hotel’s ellabess Hosts Black & White Truffle Dinner

ellabess, a seasonal American restaurant headed by acclaimed chef Troy Unruh which opened in the Nolitan Hotel this summer, is hosting a luxurious Black & White Truffle Dinner tomorrow evening (November 15, 2011)!  These truffles, from P.A.Q. truffles, will be prepared in a number of ways by the one and only Chef Troy Unruh.

Nestled in the Nolitan Hotel, ellabess prides itself in serving both hotel patrons and all New Yorkers looking for an exceptional dining experience.  In fact, ellabess is quickly establishing itself as Nolita’s destination for seasonal American fare. ellabess is operated by Epicurean Management, the hospitality company whose restaurants include New York City favorites dell’anima, L’Artusi and Anfora, and offers guests a variety of market fresh dishes, house cocktails, thoughtfully selected wines and beers, and a dynamic design in one of New York’s most exciting neighborhoods.

Upon walking into ellabess, guests will notice the light, airy aesthetic, courtesy of designers Grzywinski+Pons.  Two full walls of floor-to-ceiling windows provide an abundance of natural light throughout the restaurant and an opportunity for guests to look out into the bustling Nolita neighborhood.  The 70-seat space also features a number of unique design elements, such as the “eco-felt” that lines the ceiling and significantly reduces interior noise, Natura water filters, and a 20’ high wine wall next to the white Carrera marble bar.  Custom-made oak tables and chairs, Austrian white oak floors, ceramic brick tiles, and Italian polymer globe lamps, are among the other components.  A 12-seat lounge area is directly adjacent to the restaurant in the lobby of the Nolitan hotel, and guests can enjoy cocktails and small bites while they wait for a table.

Chef Unruh offers guests his inspired take on seasonal American ingredients, with appetizers such as Lentil Hummus, Steak Skewers, Chicken Banh Mi Sliders, Fried Sweetbreads, Broccoli Soup, Delicata Squash, Roasted Baby Beets, Fluke Ceviche, Charred Octopus, Quail and Seared Foie Gras. Guest will also enjoy Unruh’s larger plates, which include a Dry-Aged Steak Burger, Fried Chicken, Niman Ranch Pork Chop, Chatham Bay Cod and Roasted Monkfish.

Pastry Chef Carmine Arroyo refined his sweet talents at Citarella and Tabla before coming to ellabess, and he displays his skill with such desserts asa Tomato Upside Down Cake, Milk Chocolate Mousse, Waffle Soufflé with Maple Ice Cream and Candied Pecans, and assorted house-made ice creams and sorbets such as Malted Chocolate, Plum, Tahitian Vanilla, Raspberry Strawberry and Cherry Amaretto.Unruh’s menu is complemented by a diverse beer, wine and cocktail list featuring a variety of classic and contemporary drinks.   Developed by Beverage Director Graig Adler, ellabess’ beverage program includes takes on classic cocktails such as the White Russian; Harvey Wallbanger; Rusty Nail; and a Tom Collins; and a variety of wines by the glass, and craft beers such as Ommegang Wit, Corsendonk Pale, and Saison DuPont.

ellabess is located at 153 Elizabeth Street (at Kenmare Street) and is currently open for breakfast, dinner and lounge service daily.
